It's amazing to me that she is complaining about the state of the economy considering her party was in charge.

Biden is completely dominating this so far for me, he is simply a far better debater then Palin who looks totally scared.

Biden smirks in the cut aways I see, like a bear thinking about all the various ways he can effectively maim a bunny.

Except that she's just veering things back onto her pre-learned scripts... but the problem is the most people won't notice that she's just doing that.

And lying through her teeth on a number of points.

Urgh

Wall Street is the easy scapegoat. No one will blame the government for falsely propping up the housing market in order to keep the costs competitive. The marketplace isn't a place for government.

There are no facts that say global warming is caused by man. Shut it, Biden! Our carbon footprint is small. Very small. Coal creates soot based pollution, Biden, which means when it cools in the atmosphere it drops from the atmosphere. There, I said it.

But what they're talking about is the benefits given to long term couples. You MUST give the same benefits to those couples of either sex that are together in a committed relationship.

If religion wants to take the word 'marriage' and not let others have it ok... but don't suggest that the government shouldn't guarantee the rights of couples for welfare, rights, etc.

-1 to Biden for not attacking the "Surge is/was a success." The whole point of the surge was to allow a dozen or so political agreements and compromises to be made, most of which have still not been made. Even in terms of its tactical success, it was only partial - people are still getting blown up on a daily basis.

I have to go back to work I'm on an early lunch break. Barring a major fuck-up, I'm predicting this will be cast as a draw, which means that Palin will be given "winner" status as she was the major underdog.

Yeah Dag, the problem is the expectations of Palin were so very low going into this, that her not falling over and shivering will be seen as a win.

Biden is expected to be great at this, she isn't.

She still sucks in a huge way, but people aren't really looking at her critically, they're just looking for a really embarrassing gaff, if she doesn't make one then she'll be seen as doing a great job.... JUST BECAUSE SHE MADE IT THROUGH.

Set the bar low and be amazed that she can step over it.

So sad.

They need to understand that the fighting in Afghanistan is alot like Vietnam now minus the uniformed north viet army.

In a report on army times, they had a recent attack and loss of a fire base, below a high vantage point village.

The Taliban is actually attacking from Waziristan in full on offensives, they do not wanna give up the Opium trade.

farhad - I think you may have reverse beer goggles on. You're assuming that the average voter in the US is more concerned with Biden's command of facts and issues versus Palin's hockey mom charm. No doubt Biden kicked her ass on substantive points, but she often was able to successfully retort with bumper sticker slogans (thanks SG - that's a great line - hmmm, BSG 9000?).

shuac, I think if you look at the replay, she fumbled at least a couple of times, but tended to recover. So, unless you think it's a disaster that she didn't implode, then I give advantage to Biden. But not a big one.

I think the big question for Palin is can she now go out on the campaign trail and keep this up. It was the same question after her acceptance speech, for which she was also heavily coached. She failed to impress already on her own, and I think she will again if they let her.

I'm not reading all the above liberal crap, just thought I's throw my 2 cents in after watching it.

Bullcrap on both sides, no real substance, Biden dodged everything thrown at him (Hussein Obama's war voting record, his spending plans, etc...), and Miss Palin looked ravishing, but not perfectly prepared, although that was expected.

I'd give the debate a C-, Biden a D, and Miss Palin a B-

Biden should have mopped the floor with her, but didn't.

There were a lot of things he could have thrown at her

1) Why her husband was a member of a secessionist group?
2) Why is New Orleans still messed up and at risk THREE years after Katrina?
3) If Palin is all about change, he should have asked her what specifically she disagreed with in the Bush/Cheney administration, and when did she or McCain voice that disagreement?
4) Why does she want even more power for the VP office than exists now?

And a long list of other things.

Palin got off easy, and Biden was too verbose.

is she anything but an inflatable fuckdoll to you?

every single time you describe her, you start with her appearance.

and she's married, btw. so it's Mrs or Gov Palin, that you shouldn't be coveting.

Democrats are born losers. They can't win inspite of themselves.

They take the most moronic and incompetent pro-Rape-babies, moose hunting, wolf killer.. And turn her into a pariah and raise the bar SOOOOO low by being disrespectful and taking the mouth-breathing republithug route on attacking her. They lowered the bar so low she doesn't even have to be able to talk in coherent sentences to appear to be successful.

NuuuUUcuuulear. Great we have another halfwit governor from an oil rich state with complete lack of curiosity about the world soon to be the next president. Bravo Democrats. You might as well replace Biden with Lieberman at this point.

Agreed rougy - I thought Biden let her off easy on too many points. The coaching on his side must have believed the BS about him looking like a bully or sexist if he really went after her.

farhad - I think you may have reverse beer goggles on.

Oh yea I forgot. Most Americans are simpletons and pick their heads of state based on whether or not they would like to have a beer with them.

I'm not sure if you're being sarcastic or not. No, most Americans are not simpletons, and they also know that no one has all the answers. That's why it is easier to lead them towards a "straight-talker" instead of a policy wonk. When someone comes off as a know-it-all, it doesn't ring true, because everyone knows better. Individually, they may not have any coherent response to a particular issue, but anyone that comes across as "I know all about this stuff better than you" is viewed with great suspicion. Look at GWB's first presidential campaign. Or Reagan versus Carter.

And that goes back to rougy's point about Biden not clobbering her when he could have. He would have come off as "Mr. Smarty-pants", and she would have been the darling with good sense and decent values.

Biden did mop the floor with her, overwhelmingly outclassing her on every single issue and did it without regressing into pettyness, mudflinging and personal attacks. He mopped the floor with her by completely talking over her and instead debating McCain, while miss Palin desperately delivered a highschool debate preformance with wide generalized statements and no-substance talking points.
Her blatant ignoring of her weakness question was just pathetic.

I don't think it was a decisive win for Biden. Hate to say it, but that's what I saw.

That was the first round of a one-round prize fight and the rookie left the ring standing.

By what standard did she leave the ring standing? What could Biden possibly have done to have change that opinion, go over and physically knock her down? Barring unreasonable expectations on what should've happened, he did the best job that he practically could, while Palin did a terrible job gosh darnit *wink*
This was supposed to have been a political debate, and in that regard biden outclassed her by leaps and bounds. It was a no-brainer who had the the more knowledge, experience and better political instinct, just like it was completely obvious who would make the better vice president. Not only that, but Biden did an amazing job in selling the democratic viewpoint while Palin completely missed her chances to give a coherent and correct republican view.
