The McCain-Palin Mob

Oatmealsays...

How can so many people be so uninformed/ignorant/stupid? How does this happen? America is fucked if McCain is elected and I hate to say it, but probably fucked either way, as these people wont just dissapear after the election. I pity the 150 million sane Americans who are unfortunate enough to share a country with these people.

The best comment is clearly the guy in the background saying "Don't answer any of his questions unless he submits them in writing."

Best WTF moment of the clip ...

please post more of this. I know you've got it ... and it was too good. So much ignorance.

chilaxesays...

Wow... people are so passionate about politics, you don't need to even pretend to be on their side in order to get them to say stupid things on camera.

Think of the potential if you actually pretended to be on their side.

I live in atlanta. I strongly dislike Obama's policies (which i've read from wikipedia, and heard on all of the debates). I know you'd like to characterize anyone with a few conservative values as one of these, but i can assure you that if i walked out to Five Points, amidst the "CHANGE We Can Believe In" shirts, and started asking questions about Obama, you'd get worse answers than these. YOU are just as susceptible to spouting out catchphrases and soundbites as any other joe. The truth is, YOU DON'T KNOW THE TRUTH. You are fed the same amount of horse**** as the rest of us. The only people who really know what's going on are the people who create said malarkey in the form of "news".

While i think this sort of thing is silly... And i agree that you talk to enough people you can peice together this kind of thing from almost anything...

I have on the other hand seen entirely to much of this non-sense...

I'm curious DeeDub... whats keeping you?... internet tough guy syndrome?.. If you watched the video it should have been apparent he didn't need to be to terribly clever with those individuals...

my friend tells me stories almost everyday of people he runs into at school who are supporting obama but when my friend asks them why they simply spout something like "cause we need change!" i don't doubt that this same kind of video could be made against obama.... not that i'd ever want to make one of these videos myself.

i don't understand what the cameraman's point was about who each person had heard of first... i've only known my wife for 4 years, but i am pretty certain i know her better than people i heard of on tv years before.

If they're saying "we need change" that's accurate even if it is just a slogan. This guy was in a crowd of republicans getting lambasted by bigotry and plain falsehoods and refusal to face contradictory statements - I'm sure it's out there but you'd be hard pressed to find that crowd of democrats. I grew up around conservatives like this and they're incapable of questioning their beliefs because they were taught from a young age that they're not allowed to question the established order. There are republicans who have thought out reasons for supporting people like McCain/Palin but they won't tell you those reasons on camera because it's purely narcissistic (wealth seeking at the expense of others) and they'd come off as evil. Liberals can follow blindly but if they do it's just laziness - by definition they're not told from a young age they have to believe anything other than you have a right to certain freedoms and try respect others. Read George Lakoff's book Moral Politics if you find this as interesting as I do.

Also the point of asking when they'd heard of Palin was to try to get them to consider that they might be putting someone very questionable up for 2nd in line to the president when they just met her.... and of course recording their acrobatics as they try to avoid the issue.

rottenseedsays...

jest of this entire argument/video. Very few of the people who are going to be voting know anything about their candidate and only the partially true, or falsehoods about the opponent. Effing sheep. Join the heard or join the government.

NetRunnersays...

To those of you who say there are morons supporting Obama too, this is true.

The difference is, those morons are interested in something positive about Obama, and/or feel negative about the circumstances in the country (Iraq and the economy, chiefly) under Republican rule.

McCain supporters think Obama is a terrorist, a traitor, a muslim, an elitist, a scary black man, and a marxist. They even openly threaten to kill him at rallies. They believe shit like Obama will take away all their guns, paint the White House black, and put the crescent and star on the American flag.

Obama supporters don't want violence. They don't think the other side wants to destroy the country -- we just think they're doing it through their own ineptitude.

Our negative smears about McCain are that he wants war with Iran, Russia, Syria, Lybia, China, Venezuela, and maybe Spain -- and we want to end wars, not start more.

So pick your morons -- the ones who want peace, love, and weed, or the ones who want to lynch the n***er.

I know which morons I'd rather be associated with.

@rgroom1
while you are enititled, and i would suggest further your duty,to vote your principals.thats one thing, its an entirely different thing to claim ignorance, then chastise others for ignorance.
if you garner all your information from corporate television, then i would agree in your assertion that we are all ignorant.the corporate news media has failed us all in keeping us informed and providing us all with the much needed context to make sound decisions.
but the fact that you are using the greatest tool to combat ignorance, the internet, weakens your statement considerably.
ignorance is curable, stupid is not,and the people being filmed here are ignorant, and while not representative of conservatives as a whole,i still find it saddening that so many of my fellow citizens are so ignorant.
a point of view can only be validated if it can be backed up by showing the linear reasoning process on how that conclusion was formulated.
"because i found his name to be scary, and muslim-like" shows such a depth of ignorance, and a total absence of critical thinking, that it breaks my heart.
so rgroom1,while YOU may have researched obama and found him lacking,so many MANY of your fellow mcain supporters have not.
so please do not defend those who have not taken the same amount of time to research, compare and think as YOU have.you should be just as outraged by their ignorance as i.

I really couldn't agree more... I find it incredible how accepting of ignorance people are as long as it is in support of their own beliefs... Absolutly incredible... I agree it's true of both parties... but it seems absolutly epidemic of Palin/McCain supporters.

rougysays...

McStupid.

One of the biggest differences that I know of between liberals and cons is that the liberals actually try to keep reliably informed whereas the cons are always too lazy to make the effort.

That's why you'll hear them spout gibberish like "politicians are all the same" or "you're just repeating liberal media lies", etc., because they are too thick skulled to educate themselves.

Those McCain supporters who actually believe that Obama is a terrorist are some of the biggest and most vocal embarrassments in our country today.

And let's just spell something out while we're at it: the number one reason why most McCain supporters will not vote for Obama is simply because he is a black man.

spoco2says...

NetRunner: EXACTLY.

There are always ill informed idiots on boths sides of any election... Now let's talk about the voters... ha ha! Badoom tish... no seriously.

I agree wholeheartedly with your sentiment. A very small percentage of the voting public are fully up to speed on both sides of the debate, on all issues, on everything each candidate has said.

BUT

The McCain/Palin CAMPAIGN is spreading this stuff, THEY are saying 'is he qualified', 'what do you know about his experience'. When the campaign is using these lines as part of their campaign and speeches, you just need to see if people are swallowing the bs whole without questioning it.

I'm not sure what parts of Obama's campaign you could do the same with really? Any suggestions? McCain is playing a much dirtier, much nastier campaign based on bs, so if the supporters are eating it up, you have to show them they're eating crap.

rougysays...

Not to mention that the GOP has put this country through eight years of hell.

9/11, blocking the investigation into 9/11, two trumped up wars, lying about WMDs, joking about WMDs not being under his desk, saying they're not spying on us when they're spying on us, the torture and misconduct at Abu Ghraib and Guantanamo Bay - which was approved from the White House - rigging unemployment and GDP numbers to make themselves look better, and now the bottom falling out from under Wall Street along with all of our 401(k) and retirement packages.

It's criminal that anybody would even consider supporting the Republicans after all that they've done to us.

bamdrewsays...

I canvas for Obama in Indiana. Its hard not to put people like these folks on the defensive. Many are not supporting McCain because of his policies, so you can immediately throw people on the defensive even talking about policies. And don't question devotion to Palin; its emotional, not intellectual. Many despise politicians, and don't see her as one, so combine that with her folksiness and you get an emotional devotion.

Out canvasing I typically describe how I first liked Obama because of his work with a Republican Senator on transparency-in-government legislation (a 'small government' agenda), and how often he notes how important transparency will be in his administration, as he's a Constitution super-fan. I then ask what issue are most important to them and present Obama's plan or stance on that issue.

gourmetemusays...

Netrunner,

My problem with the moron's on the Obama side are that the assume all people voting for McCain are moron's who want to "lynch a n***er". These are the same people who assume because I'm grew up in Indiana I'm some sort of backwoods hick that needs to constantly be enlightened, and these were the same people that regurgitate "Bush is Stupid" ad nauseum expecting to get laughs as well can't name any politcal figures outside of McCain /Palin /Obama /Biden /Bush /Cheney.

But yes many McCain supporters are douchebags.

It's the morons on both sides that make me so apathetic towards voting. This is why I turned in a blank ballot last time. Maybe this time around I'll vote on idealism, but I have a hard time ignoring that it seems like I'm voting for either two varied sets of corporations and special interests groups.

NetRunnersays...

^ That's why they're called "morons". There are educated people on both sides too.

There are some violent people on both sides as well, but Obama isn't saying "McCain will start a nuclear war with Russia", he isn't saying "he's going to rape the natural resources of the earth", he isn't saying "he will imprison and torture anyone who he feels like".

He isn't trying to incite our violent tendencies. If anything, he's trying to cool them, and get us to understand that disagreements about policies should not prevent us from getting along.

McCain is sending out Palin and his other surrogates to tell people that Obama is risky, unknown, dangerous, hates America, hates its values, and may be involved in violence against our government. That's not subtle. That's not a dog whistle, it's a fog horn.

These two parties are not being run by the same kinds of people. They're not equally evil -- they're not even remotely in the same category.

It's kind of tough to be determined if you are not all too informed I imagine. These specimens appear well trained in whatever skill that requires.

I imagine there are some clever people out there that go to these Republican campaign rallies who might make a point for McCain or two. I just don't think those would like to talk to any cameras right now ;-)
