Biden Chokes Up During Debate

This was a very touching moment of the debate. Biden's biography has been very sad at moments.

^ Men choke back their emotions. I sound that way when I try to put voice to something that's almost too painful to bear. A catch in the voice, maybe a halt to collect myself, and then try to finish the sentence with a straight face hoping no one noticed...and I've never been on live television for it.

Oh, and bonus upvote to Fjnbk for the secret message.

I also thought he was choking-up with emotion, not 'tearing-up' but literally choking-up, where your throat closes for a second when emotion hits you hard.

The people I watched this with thought this rebuttal was MAJOR for Biden, where he finally took offense to Palin's comments enough not to play so soft with his reply, and reminded us in no uncertain terms that he (and Obama) came from a poor family, and he doesn't live in an ivory tower away from other Americans.

(BTW, Biden actually has a lot of debt in the form of mortgages... like hundreds of thousands of dollars).

Oh I see what you did there!

A truly heartfelt moment indeed, albeight one that should have no bearing on the debate score, if there ever was one. Not that it matters, but Palin began to ignore the questions by telling a non-sequitor personal stories.

He completely obliterated Palin in that debate. She didn't make a single point any clearer than they were before she started speaking, which atleast in my book is the one thing political debates are for. Actually, with that degrading tone of voice and way of speaking to us, overly perky and simplistic like we were children, she did more harm than good.
Also, she really should not pronouce "nuclear" as "nucular". Why would she want to be connected to Bush?

Kruposays...

I was especially amused by the "viewer response meter" at the bottom.

In some ways it was kind of cheesy, in other ways it was fun to see a graphical depiction of Biden kicking Palin with his mighty brain.

+1 for the hidden message.

Biden did a terrific job. He was very clear, spoke directly from experience, and gave a positive outline of obama's plans. He called out Mccain and Palin on their bullshit a few times and corrected a few of Sarahs missguided attacks on obama.

Sarah on the other hand did a better job than most expected her to do, but she hardly answered a single question specifically or at all. It was as if she took her response time to be "talk about whatever" time.

Kreegathsays...

Exactly, what does it mean to say she did better than expected when she didn't explain any positions in any kind of detail? If by saying she "did better than expected" they mean she talked when it was her turn, then yes. But honestly, that's no standard to hold a person to who's vying to be vice president of the United States of America.

My wife and I both connected with Biden at that moment. In her words it was his "defining moment."

It's also interesting that while he mentioned women's issues, Palin never did, and the moderator didn't ask. I was disappointed by that.

That little "reaction meter" at the bottom really bothers me. Its not enough to present biased news, we also have to try to bias peoples reactions? Honestly, how can someone form an opinion, when there is a majority opinion already on the screen telling them how they should feel?

I agree; this is just another reason why I watched it on PBS to try to limit the amount of interference by any bullshit news media.

I find his speech particularly heart-rending as he reads it from his little print out on his podium.

I can't tell if you're trolling, but the candidates were not allowed any prepared material. Neither of them. The organizers put blank paper and writing utensils on the lecterns and that's it.

Well Joe, your side of the aisle believes people live to serve government, not the other way around. Your idea of "help" is a crushing tax burden you and your ilk inflict on people who work hard, in order for you and your cronies to buy the votes of the indolent welfare class, illegals, ex-cons and bureaucrats.

i can't wait for the election to be over finally so all the liberals can get off of their high horse.
the damn top 15 has been anti mccain/palin bs for the past 2 months.
videosift used to be fun.
billoreilly, that -26 is a badge of honor. it's really hard to piss off that many people.
p.s.
why isn't videosift a word? the dictionary doesn't recognize it.

Wait did you just say that the Republican Party who have held a near dominant position for the last 8 years have been fiscally conservative and serving the American people?

I think folks over in New Orleans would disagree.

The more downvotes you get on LiberalSift, the more you know you're in the right.

You'd think to be more grateful that once these fakeservatives make it in they start acting exactly like liberals. Well, not exactly: a President Kerry or Gore (shudder) would've spent even more than Bush post 9-11, only they'd waste it on global warming fiction and expanded health care for illegals.

I think folks over in New Orleans would disagree.

You're confusing the natural ineptitude of Big Government + unprepared people depending on the same + living in a city below sea level + the fucking city was/is run by Democrats the past 50 years who skipped taking care of the levees with "Bush caused racist hurricane" tabloid fodder.

Biden you did OK on your little speech but now it's time to TAKE THE TRAIN and bow out.

Farhad2000says...

Why don't you just make up your mind? A year ago you said Bush was the best thing to happen since sliced bread and now you are saying they are fakeservatives. What next you'll claim that Bush was actually a Democrat in disguise?

Bush ran on a platform of being FISCALLY CONSERVATIVE, since reasoning is hard for you to grasp this lil' graph should help you.

New Orleans? Failure of big government and democrats? What like FEMA appointment by the Bush Administration never happened? What Big Government are you talking about anyway? Last I checked Bush all but privatized the whole shebang by hiring out consultants for everything including the War on Terror.
