ABC News Investigates Sarah Palin's Book Censorship

ABC News' Brian Ross investigates Sarah Palin's book censorship, and exposes homophobic views and statements from Palin's church.
Constitutional_Patriotsays...

ok... this confirms that she's a maniacle religious nut. Banning books... if these people were not restrained they'd be burning books. Sick.. if the Constitution weren't prohibiting church and state integration we'd probably have religious inquisitions. Boy that'd be fun.

Wow, in 8 years of governance she's racked up THREE ethical scandals?

And that's only as Mayor of a hick town and governor of the 2nd smalled state in America.

I'd hate to think about what she would do as Vice fucking President.

Damn straight MG. But I think your tally of only three ethics scandals will probably be an understatement soon enough.

Pat Buchanan called McCain "Bush on steroids" (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCnjBrueji4) on the Jan 22nd edition of "Hardball". So the even scarier question is if Palin is "Cheney on steroids"?

It seems that the Cheney/Palin comparison is much bigger than some think, especially considering the "special conference call" with the biggest oil execs in the state, just leaked today:

I love this line:
"Nothing goes ahead unless Exxon is happy with it."

Ok, factcheck.org is doing a bullshit job with these Palin issues. They deny that Palin was interested in book banning and creationism and school, but if you read further you see that the denials are based on the flimsiest of semantics.

From http://www.factcheck.org/elections-2008/sliming_palin.html

"She did not demand that books be banned from the Wasilla library. Some of the books on a widely circulated list were not even in print at the time. The librarian has said Palin asked a "What if?" question, but the librarian continued in her job through most of Palin's first term."

Later on after the jump it mentions that Palin fired the Librarian. But come on, read between the lines. Reason for firing? "she didn’t feel she had Emmons’ support"

And then this:
"Palin has not pushed for teaching creationism in Alaska's schools. She has said that students should be allowed to "debate both sides" of the evolution question, but she also said creationism "doesn't have to be part of the curriculum."

But when Palin said "Teach both. You know, don't be afraid of information. Healthy debate is so important and it's so valuable in our schools. I am a proponent of teaching both." she is damn well pushing for creationism in schools, whether or not she makes it part of her legislative agenda or not.

Factcheck.org is debunking the complaints against Palin far too literally. The important point isn't whether she tried to introduce creationist legislation (which really isn't her place as governor) but whether she supports teaching creationism in schools which she unambiguously does. And in the same vein, it doesn't matter if she banned books from the library, what matters is that she tried to and fired the librarian when she lost her support because of this.

Simple you cannot remove books... any books.

Freedom of Speech and Freedom of the Press. The printing press.

You start removing books... you can expect an uprising.

That's why I would leave the books alone and inject my own books to poison the minds of others. Its a good strategy, slow, but plausible.

So John McCain kicks the bucket, and Palin takes control...
She starts by banning books on religious grounds.
When the Gay's angrily protest... she uses the new law against "forcing" the goverment to "detain" them.

Gay people are rounded up and taken to 'rehabilitation detention centres' and taught to pray the gay away and help them to be patriotic.

Hell she may even cram them onto buses and trains to save money on transport and keep the right wing religious facist metaphor going.

MINKsays...

maybe one of her religious powerbase pressured her to check if it was possible, and she reluctantly agreed, phrasing her question carefully, and then not removing any books.

point is, she didn't remove any books, right?

isn't book removal the outrageous crime, as opposed to asking hypothetical stupid questions? I for one welcome our questionasking policychecking gaybashing overlords.

KnivesOutsays...

No, the point is that an elected official shouldn't have to ask the question. She might ask one of her aids, or legal counsel, in private, and hopefully she'd get the right answer, if she honestly didn't know.

But to ask the librarian, in a public, official capacity, is ridiculous, and yes, it is wrong.

AND

An elected official who'd be dumb enough to ask the question in that context is not someone I want anywhere near the chain-of-command of our executive branch.

ponceleonsays...

Dear god... why are they trying to cover this up? Rhetorical question? Followed by firing?

you know what? the fact that 50% of this country supports her, I say let her be president. Just that simple. If the kid doesn't learn that the stove is hot after touching it, he didn't leave his hand on the stove long enough.

Edit: Knivesout hit this issue on the HEAD: I can just see Palin asking (rhetorically mind you) of Islam nations why they haven't accepted Jesus, the clear master of the universe, as their lord and savior....

The problem with that analogy is that the kid isn't just touching the stove. In this case, the kid is pouring gasoline on the stove, and the rest of us kids are stuck in the same house.

I'm for teaching not just the genesis creation myth, but the creation myths of at least 20 different religions/cultures, so students can see what kind of ludicrous crap some people accepted as fact before the discovery of the germ theory of disease, the electricity theory of lightning, the geological theory of volcanoes, &c. They can compare and contrast the ancient fairy tales with the narratives of physics, chemistry, biology, geology, astronomy, &c.

> that's only as Mayor of a hick town

(Springsteen voice) That's my home town! That's myyyy hommmmmee town.

We just got our $3260 per citizen deposited into our accounts a couple nights ago. You should see a town of hicks have every single one of their pockets loaded with cash overnight, it's FUNNY !!

I went to Wal-Mart the next day to absorb the sheer effect of it. Imagine the scummiest poorest crack addicts with a plasma TV per cart and several $75 cartons of cigs. I bet the amount of coke and meth done that night was a world record.
