60 Minutes: The Cost of Dying
$50k for an extra 6 weeks of life? That could be worth it if she got some epic loot in WoW. Maybe.

You know, I still come back to this video sometimes and play it in the background while I'm working... I think it makes a good soundtrack.. Johnnie bootstrapping himself up from nothing.

Rachel Maddow: Fringe and Purge
If we like non-mainstream candidates, it seems like advocating the kinds of systems used in Europe might be most the productive way to go.

They don't use "winner takes all" systems as we do in the US, where 51% of the vote = 100% of the representation (for that seat).

Nick Griffen, for example, has a seat representing the British government because of those systems.

This preacher is going to burn in hell !

His opinion is just that, an opinion. He has no authority to back his opinion up.

And who the fuck does? What an absolutely pointless, stupid comment.

A scientist's opinion derives authority from independently observable evidence.

This preacher is "just saying stuff," even if it's nice "stuff."

Not really as definitive as claiming you're right without any evidence, but I guess it could work.

UCLA students protest an increase in tuition of 32%
The California government is bankrupt, even though we have some of the highest taxes in the country. People protest about everything, but money doesn't grow on trees.

Ending youtube embeds at set times? (Geek Talk Post)
^Interesting.

The 'end' property does work when the Splicd embeds are viewed on other sites, so there does seem to be something occurring with us here at Videosift that makes the 'end' property not work.

You can see a video reduced to 2 seconds here: <a rel="nofollow" href="http://splicd.com/3CCEDNcqtEM/30/32">http://splicd.com/3CCEDNcqtEM/30/32</a> .

Below is the corresponding embed for that video (note the "&end=32"):

<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3CCEDNcqtEM&start=30&end=32"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3CCEDNcqtEM&start=30&end=32" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object> <div style="text-align: right; margin-top: 3px; width: 425px; height: 344px;"><a rel="nofollow" href="http://splicd.com" style="color: rgb(85, 85, 85); font-size: 13px; text-decoration: none; font-family: Helvetica,sans-serif;">powered by <span style="color: rgb(200, 91, 0);">Splicd.com</span></a></div>

Couple Arrested for Not Paying Tip
Why should restaurant staff feel entitled to get paid more than construction workers? I've had stints as both, and they're both pretty thankless. Tipping is a self-serving loophole engineered by restaurant managers.

If there weren't a million people vying for those jobs, pay would go up, the trivial work would then be increasingly automated, and humankind would be spared a life of drudgery. In agriculture, the US doesn't use some time-saving automated technology that's used in Europe and Japan because we have so many folks vying for those jobs that it's cheaper to pay them than to buy the existing technology.

Ending youtube embeds at set times? (Geek Talk Post)
^Yeah, I initially tried adding "&end," so it looked like: &start=11&end=36, but only the start command worked.

Looking now at the embed code Splicd creates, that's exactly what it does also, except the end command does work when the embedded video is viewed on other sites.
